Info Link
Info link is a feature that allows the user to define links to external files or locations relevant to a specific keynote. These links can be of any file type and allows users to quickly find and open other project data relevant to a keynote.
This system uses the same XML data file that the comment system uses, so it can be modified by anyone with knowledge of XML and an XML editor. Caution is advised, however, as changing the format or values outside of Keynote Manager could cause unexpected results.
To define a link for a keynote either right click on the keynote, select it and select External Data->Add Link from the top menu, or select it and use the 'Add Link' button on the left side tool bar. This will add a default link to the keynote which can then be updated with the desired values. To update the name, simply double click and edit it. To update the link location either click the 'I Beam' button to edit directly (useful for web locations) or the 'ellipsis' button to browse to a file on your file system.
Once you have links defined for a keynote the expandable links palette will appear below the keynote description. This palette can be expanded to show all links related to this keynote and allows editing, removing, or a simple click to open the file or location.
The following are some ideas of links that may be useful:
- Link to the word processor specification
- Link to the manufacturers test data on the internet
- Link to the manufacturers list of available finishes
- Link to an image of the product in its installed state
- Create a 'mailto' link to email a manufacturers rep or a consultant
- Link to a Revit family file in your library or on a content site
Because links are designed to link to items such as specifications, Keynote Manager includes a link compiler function. The link compiler allows you to view all links in a document and sort and filter them by keynote, Keynote use value, description, or file type. The compiler will then copy all the documents selected to a single file folder.
Activate the link compiler by pressing the compile links button on the tool bar. From the main compiler interface you will see a list of all links in the keynote file; use the filter icons in the column headers to filter links by the specific values until you have the list of desired links and check the boxes for the links to be exported.
Second, select the folder where the links are to be copied (you can use the ellipsis button to browse in a dialog or copy and paste from file explorer). Select if you would like to overwrite existing files (if any exist).
Last, press the 'Compile Links' button and all files will be copied to the new folder.
