Filters
Filter Overview
Selection Master supports two classes of selection filters; standard filters and parameter filters. The following graphic shows the 'Current Filters' section of the palette including an example of each filter type. The descriptions below describe each column.
- Type - The type of filter, including Parameter, Level, Family, Category, Phase Created, or Phase Demolished. This determines the basis on which elements will be compared.
- Name (parameter Filters Only) - This is the name of the parameter that is to be searched for. This field is case sensitive and must be spelled exactly as it is in Revit or the parameter will not be found.
- Comparer - This value determines how elements will be compared to the value. For example you can find everything on Level 1 with an '=' filter or everything NOT on Level 1 with a 'Not Equal' filter. Parameter based filters with units also have comparers available for 'Greater Than', 'Less Than', 'Greater Than or Equal To', and 'Less Than or Equal To.'
- Value - This is the value that will be searched for. For parameter filters, this must be typed in and must match the value in the Revit interface exactly (case sensitive). For non-parameter filters, this will be pre-populated will all available options from the current project.
- Unit (Parameter Filters Only) - For parameter filters, this is the unit associated with the value to be compared. For example, if you are looking for doors over 3'-0" wide, the value should be 3 and the unit should be 'Feet'. For unitless parameters such as text or numbers set the unit to 'None'.
Editing the Filter List
To add, remove, or edit the filters in the current list simply use the controls given in the current filters list as described below:
- Clear Filters Button - This button clears all filters from the current set and causes it to revert to an empty filter set.
- Add Filter Button - This button adds a filter to the end of the list. By default, new filters are created as level filters set equal to the first level in the project. After the filter is created you can modify the filter type and any other values by simply using the drop downs.
- Individual filter controls
- The arrow control is a grip that allows the user to drag and drop to reorder filters. IMPORTANT: Selection Master processes filters in the order that they are listed. Because some filters take longer than others filter order can effect performance. The following are recommended guidelines for ordering filters:
- Parameter filters are the slowest filters. Because of this they should be listed last. It is also not recommended to have a parameter filter as your only filter if possible.
- Filters should be ordered so that the ones that REMOVE the most elements are listed first. For example if your project only contains a few dozen doors but two levels filtering by category first will be fastest. However if you project is a residential tower that contains many many doors on 100 different levels it would likely be faster to filter by level first.
- The 'X' button removes this filter from the set.
