General

The keynote UI for Keynote Manager + can be presented as either a palette or a Revit dockable pane. Both of these UI options allow keynote files to be edited from within Revit using the powerful Keynote Manager interface. Both also automatically display the correct keynote file for the current Revit project.

The palette interface is a collapsible floating palette that can be moved anywhere on screen and opened or closed as necessary. The dockable pane can't be collapsed, but it can be docked directly within the Revit UI including tabbed docking with the project browser, properties palette, etc.

Palette Controls

The keynote palette can be modified in the following ways:

  • Click and drag the handle (the bar that says 'Keynote Manger +') to reposition the palette on screen.
  • Right click the handle to expand or collapse the palette.
  • Click the flip control (<>) to flip the direction of the palette. If the handle is on the right it will be flipped to the left; if it's on the left it will be flipped to the right.
  • Click and drag on any edge or corner of the palette to change the size.
  • Click the 'X' control to hide the palette (it can be shown again by clicking 'Show Palette' on the Revolution Design tab of the Revit ribbon).

All palette settings are remembered from session to session so once the palette is positioned as desired it will appear in the same position next time Revit is opened.

Dockable Pane Controls

The dockable pane can be modified exactly the same as the standard Revit dockable panes (project browser, properties palette, etc). Drag the pane to out of the UI to float it, drag it over another dockable pane to create a tabbed interface, or drag it to an interface position to dock it there.

Keynote Manager also includes settings for the initial load position of the dockable pane. These settings allow the user to customize where they would like the dockable pane to be docked or tabbed on initial load.

Editing

General editing controls for files opened in the palette are the same as the main interface and are described on the other help pages.

In addition to the standard editing controls, the keynote palette also contains several enhancements for interacting with the Revit model:

  • Synchronize key values -When a key value is changed in the keynote palette, all open Revit projects that use that keynote file are searched for elements using that key value. If any are found they are automatically updated to the new value. This ensures that there are no broken key value links in Revit.
  • Automatic Reload (Revit 2015 and above) - When the keynote file for an open project is changed, Keynote Watcher causes Revit to automatically reload the file so that changes are immediately visible in Revit.
  • Apply - Keynotes can be applied to the current Revit model in one of three ways (as selected in the drop down at the top of the UI):
    • Element Keynote - Allows the user to create element keynotes in the current view. When creation of the tags is complete, Revit sets the key value for those elements to the selected keynote in Keynote Manager.
    • Material Keynote - The same as element keynote except placing a material keynote.
    • User Keynote - The same as element keynote except placing a user keynote.
    • Apply to Selection - Sets the key value for the currently selected elements in Revit.
  • Used / Unused - Keynotes that are in use in the current model are designated by an icon in the right hand column. Click this icon to select and show all elements in the Revit model currently using this keynote.
